CliSys offers completaly integrated elaborated tools to create reports and statistics in climatology.

They will allow supplying useful information to end-users:

  • Daily, decadal or monthly reports
  • Statistics: frequency analysis, cumulated frequency distribution, contingency table, monthly averages...
  • Chart and wind rose for a station
  • Time series graphs for each parameter of each data: - a group of parameters on the same graph - a group of stations on the same output

Increase your service capability by proposing personalized products

  • Use of standard templates
  • Configuration of personalized presentations: insertion of users’ logo, layout definition, ...
  • Save new templates

Climate products dissemination

End-users can access to their personalized climate products and to standard products description:

  • Via CliSys
  • Via MFI’s MeteoFactory® system at which CliSys can be plugged
  • Via the National Met Service’s Web site

CliSys: Data in the heart of the system

A dynamic solution that you can customize in order to make yours all the steps of climatology data management

A centralized database

Relational Database Management System (RDMS):

  • High performance in climate data retrieval
  • Reliability thanks to various back-up procedures
  • Climate data consistency thanks to integrity constraints application

Climate data and metadata centralized in a unique and powerful database

Import of various climate data according to one acquisition method thanks to a flexible and opened system:

  • Real time acquisition from Automatic Weather Stations through an Automatic Message Switching System
  • Manual input process
  • Data integration from Global Telecommunication System (GTS)

Optimized storage of your data

Definition of a logical storage structure of climate data, thanks to an underlying data model:

  • Especially designed for climate data in order to ensure high performance for real time applications and data storage optimization.
  • Built-up dynamically to match local specificities and to be entirely taken into account in CliSys with no modification of applications.
  • Possible storage of any kind of meteorological information (standard WMO and non standard data)
  • Possible evolution of the data base by adding new meteorological parameters at any time.

CliSys: Data control and data processing

Monitoring and control

  • Visualization of received data in the data base in near real time.
  • Control of metadata network condition, including maps and slide shows.

Metadata management

  • Archiving of static information from observation network: Geographic characteristics, Sensors information, site pictures...
  • Addition of new values (stations, instruments...).
  • Modification of existing values.

Calculation of derived data

  • Keep or enhance existing computation methods
  • Use of well-tried methods, in particular by Météo-France, to calculate: - Normals according to WMO recommendations on missing data management rules. - Extreme values observed during a period on a station or a list of stations - Derived data computed using other raw data stored in the database

Data consistency control

Quality flag associated to each climate element.

  • Tolerance: computed automatically during acquisition process to verify validity of observed elements.
  • Internal consistency: executed by your experts or automatically near real time on database content to validate data or to consider it doubtful.
  • Time consistency: Interactive or automatic process made by your experts on database content to verify timely variation of an element.
  • Spatial consistency: Visualization of climate values spatially with direct link to data modification functionalities.

Modification or creation of new quality controls.

Easy and real time access to data

  • Automatic generation of data catalogue
  • CliSys data inventory consultation to verify existence of a data in the base
  • Use of an ergonomic graphic interface to extract data in an ASCII file
  • Use of Web interface to upload raw data on remote user workstation
  • Send of SQL queries to the database
  • Use of database access libraries for your own developments and research works.

CliSys: Flexibility of the system, strictness of the regulations

Distributed and flexible approach

  • Apply your own policies of organization or benefit from Meteo Fance International and Météo-France’s experience by choosing between a: - Centralized approach (Head Quarter) - Or a regional approach
  • Manage users’ rights and define their privilege (data quality control and meta data management can be operated in regions).

A total compliance with WMO practices and recommendations

  • CliSys has been designed to follow the WMO recommended practices for climate data processing («Guide to Climatological Practices WMO-N°100»).
  • CliSys has been evaluated by the WMO and was found totally compliant to their requirements in 2002.
  • In June 2007, CliSys has been selected by the WMO during an international invitation to tender for the benefit of the Libyan National Meteorological Centre.
  • CliSys creates automatically standard WMO BUFR CLIMA T messages and sends them to the G.T.S. via an Automatic Message Switching System.
  • CliSys is an essential component of your meteorological information system.
  • CliSys is compliant with WIS (WMO Information System) approach.

CliSys, more than a CDMS: A reliable System

To build up and preserve the country’s climatology heritage

  • Real time integration of all data from Automatic Weather Stations, Global Telecom System and WMO Information System (WIS).
  • Import of all existing climate historic data whatever their format thanks to links with other CDMSs.
